Let’s talk about Amplifiers:

This weekend I’m re-starting work on my DIY amp project I was working on a few months ago.  I’ve tamed the design quite a bit.  The earlier one had a lot of cool ideas – too many in fact.  It became unfeasible to pull off given that I’ve never done a completely-from-scratch build before.  You have to walk before you can run.  Now I’m dialing it back a bit and just making a single-channel, high gain, medium-power amp.  I’m switching from el34 power tubes to 6v6 power tubes and reducing my B+ supply voltage such that the target wattage will be about 10W instead of 50W.  This should be better for my main use case (jamming in my basement).  It also lets me simplify the power supply and helped me to understand the power amp better.  Good decisions all around.  This should be fun.

See you all Tuesday!
