Several things aligned to bring this particular page to fruition.

First – as I mentioned I have been practicing, and lately have been eager to try out new things.

Second – the story right now is less about gag punchlines and more about thug-getting-kicked-in-the-face punchlines.  This lends itself better to more varied paneling like on this page (whereas more traditional funny gags often read better with frames in the same size from the same angle).

Third – I’ve been reading a ton of comics by a ton of great artists.  Most notably (in the past week, anyway) would be Nana, by Ai Yazawa, which as far as I can tell has the best paneling ever.  I got inspired and tried to have a little more fun than usual with my panels on this page.  I like how it turned out.  Unfortunately, this type of layout won’t work very well once I get back to the more typical gag-a-day format of this comic.  But I’m sure I’ll find a way to fit some cool stuff in anyway.

Anyway, it is late and I need sleep.  See y’all on Thursday!
