One Wire Mod

There’s a mod you can do to plexi-style amps called the “one wire” mod. Basically, you move one wire in the amp to change the two parallel input stages into a single cascaded input stage (making it more like a JCM800). In practice it is a little more complicated to reverse than what Rachel is doing here (it would require a little resoldering and potentially repurposing one of the volume knobs as a master volume), but, you know, then the joke wouldn’t work very well. 🙂
Yeah, but it’s all in knowing which wire to cut. 😀
Great work on her expressions. 🙂
Thanks!
Certainly does get the point across. (^_^)
And I see Rachel is that kind of enthusiast who, to use a car example, sees an old chassis in a barn. Buys it and will bring that thing back on the road in perfect condition. Even if takes a decade and ordering a local blacksmith to make her some parts from original materials.
She absolutely is, but she also wouldn’t shy away from redoing that old chassis with all modern parts to make a cool performance vehicle (to extend your metaphor). It all depends know the context.
Which begs a question: How do you Hot Rod an amp? 😉
Usually by adding a gain stage (either by rearranging the channels like in the “one wire mod” or by adding another tube). You can also swap out components for “better” versions if you believe in such things.
But where’s the flames? Where’s the open motor? The extravagant exhaust system?
