Operating System
I recently started doing some basic finger exercises (basically just opening and closing my fretting hand with a snap over and over until it gets too difficult). I am amazed how quickly it has made a difference. Fretting and speedwork are already way easier due to the little bit of extra finger strength. Let’s hope it scales well.
Disclaimer: this may all just be a placebo effect, but I’ll take it anyway. Playing Dream Theater riffs is easier now!
Naah, the exercises help. The quickest way to tell if they’re doing any good is to check whether the exercises themselves get easier, or if you can do them for longer periods of time
They definitely have gotten easier, and it’s been less than a week.
Definitely no placebo effect. Now, I’ve mostly stopped playing guitar about two decades ago. But I still play handball (some twentyfive years and running now), where finger strength is definitely important. And so were admonished to exercise them all the time when I was still a young trainee. And I still try to do some rather regularily.
Problem for me of course is not to overdo them. While I need finger strength in handball, finesse is more important than that in competitive shooting, which is my other sport. So it’s always walking the line between gaining extra strength and not lose too much fine sensitivity.
Makes sense. For guitar playing, people generally suggest avoiding resistance-based exercises because, while they will strengthen your fingers quicker, they will also slow them down – not something you want on guitar (or shooting, I expect).
I love the pacing in this page. Those three middle panels, with Elaine’s expressions around are great.
And that was a bold choice to go with the blank white to the left of the last panel. It kind of throws the bottom off balance, but you more than make up for it with the last panel. I think that panel wouldn’t’ve worked as well if it was a full width.
Plus, Elaine in the last panel-is it me, or do I see a very Windsor McCay look to her? I love it!
it seemed necessary for pacing. I didn’t want the last panel to be as wide as the three preceding it, so I cropped it. Alternatively I could have run those three middle panels to the edge, but I think I like this better.
Now I’ve only ever had one smartphone and that’s android based. But are messaging services really that much different to use between the systems?
I have to admit though, that the page is funny and brilliantly done. 🙂
I’m not sure how much they differ, but I occasionally have trouble finding app icons on my own phone, so it seems reasonable.
