Edit: After Charlie so graciously introduced me to the real-life 70s band, “Chase”, I had to go and change the name of Brett’s band from “Chase” to “Live OVErdrive”, which I actually like better, because it contains so many nods to so many music things that I like (including but not limited to Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Soldano Super Lead Overdrive 100 amplifier). I also fixed the word bubbles in panel three while I was at it.
I broke a cardinal rule of comics today: I “crossed the streams”, where the “streams” are the word bubble tails in panel 3. It ended up working out okay in the end though, so PHEW.
See you Thursday!
Or, you could have put Rachel’s balloons at the top, and Brett’s slightly below in the gap.
Either way, it works.
And Chase? They rocked in the day! I’d love to see Rachel and Brett ripping out some tasty licks on “Get It On.”
But where are you gonna get a horn section?
I swear to God I searched “Chase Band” and came up with nothing before I made this. Damn, I need to find a different name. Thanks for pointing that out!
Everybody ignore the band name for now!
Try an alternate spelling. Can you edit the page?
Indeed I can. In fact, I just have!
Sheesh. Kids these days.
I used to love being in parades, because every high school marching band in America knows Chase’s “Get It On,” but nobody ever knew the lyrics, obviously.
“Chayce?
I am honestly mortified that I, as someone who has not only spent the better part of his life obsessed with the music of the 70s but who also served as drum major to his high school’s marching band, was not aware of the real-life “Chase”.
Especially with that horn section. I mean Damn.
Oh, duh! I’m so dense. I just noticed that Rachel’s word balloon tails are straight and Brett’s are wriggly, and you’ve been doing it for three pages.
I love Rachel’s stunned expression in panel 4. I can’t tell if she’s going to laugh, cry, or strangle Brett. At one time I would have hazarded a guess, but after the “word balloon tail” thing I’m second guessing my powers of observation.
It is a subtle affectation.
Well, it looks cool, it also looks like a lot of work, but it looks cool. 🙂
Thanks! I think so, too. Fortunately, Manga Studio makes word bubbles really easy, so doing sqiggly tails is as easy as throwing down a few extra inflection points in a few key places.
Manga Studio is the business.
